NorthBase investigates new ways to improve the self-sufficiency, energy efficiency and climate-friendliness of NorthBase ground stations, with the end goal of providing a carbon neutral service that can withstand long-lasting power outages.
Current ongoing tasks include benchmarking latest electricity generation and storing technology, e.g. wind, solar, batteries, to maximise self-sufficiency and climate friendliness. In addition to that, we also investigate and compare up-to-date heating and cooling technologies to maximise energy efficiency and climate friendliness.
“NorthBase utilizes refurbished hardware when ever it suits for the service requirements of the customers. Reusing mounting racks, servers, switches and other IT-equipment we can save resources and money. That will not compromise security or efficiency, when firmware and software is upgraded up to date and the hardware is selected taking the power consumption into consideration.” – Jari Mononen, CIO & CSO – NorthBase Oy
“Techbuyer is a sustainable IT solutions provider with the circular economy at its core. Techbuyer’s priority is to extend the product Life Cycle of IT equipment wherever possible, in order to reduce the amount of useful technology entering the planet’s waste stream. Techbuyer is happy to provide refurbished, efficient and powerful hardware to NorthBase, for satellite ground station communication and data processing needs to contribute towards a more sustainable solution.” – Vince Canard, Head of End User Sales – Techbuyer Ltd
